THE PORTRAITS: HOUSE CONCERT TOUR 2012 – APPLY NOW FOR YOUR HOME...WEB FORM BELOW
Following the success of their Glastonbury Festival appearance last summer, London-based band The Portraits will celebrate the release of their new album this summer with a series of exclusive house concerts across the UK. Applications are now open, and will close on the 30th August (later than originally published) - the band are asking homeowners interested in their music to apply via the form below for the Portraits to play in their own living room.
The most interesting proposals will be selected for the House Concert tour from summer 2012 onwards – the band will play for free in exchange for a good crowd of friends, refreshments and the opportunity to play to an enthusiastic, listening crowd. Successful homes will be informed in September.
Songwriter Jeremy explains: “Our concerts always turn out to be such amazing fun, and we really make friends with our audiences – our gigs are like a two-way musical conversation, and so it is a natural progression for us to play in people’s living rooms. There are few limits to where we will travel for a great audience, and we can’t wait!”
The Portraits’ are currently attracting attention on their Facebook page www.facebook.com/theportraitsmusic for a unique “Friday Song” project: they are releasing a brand new song each and every week throughout 2012 based on ideas sent in by the public: stories, pictures, news items.
With three albums under their belt, The Portraits, launched in 2005 by singer Lorraine Reilly from County Galway and Bristolian classical pianist Jeremy Millington, have built a strong following in the UK and France. Their warm sound draws on the diverse backgrounds of the band’s members, mixing traditional folk with musical theatre, 1970s pop-rock with jazz, singer-songwriter and classical styles. The band was crowned Best International Artist 2011 by US station Radio Crystal Blue.
During their forthcoming series of adventurous, lyrical, emotionally enthralling performances, The Portraits will showcase songs from their new album, whose impassioned lyrics married to vibrant orchestral textures and choir-like vocal arrangements are a musical exclamation mark following the inequalities our lives are all bearing witness to both in far flung places that can seem so many moons away and much closer to home.
